Your data won't be sold

Device Usage Study won't use your data to serve you ads or affiliate marketing.
The Device Usage Study awards points to each person in your household who enrolls a device. Children aged 13-17 can join with a parent/guardian's consent.

When you enroll your smartphone device, you'll start sharing your website and app activity data with Google.

The data collected will help Google understand how users interact with the internet on their mobile devices, and will be used to design products and services that improve the website and app experience for everyone.
Household participation and parental consent
Participants aged 13-17 will require consent from their parent or guardian.

A minor can enroll in the program, but they cannot sign up as the first participant in the household. They need to be invited by an 18+ adult.
What type of data is collected?
The meter will collect most web and app activity on your device, including:
  • Information about the browser and device you use
  • The app/web pages you visit and your activity on those app/web pages
  • What you search for on your app/browser, and the response to those searches
  • Information on your signed-in or signed-out status in app/web pages
You can review and delete the data that is retained at any time.
What is a VPN?
VPN stands for virtual private network. It's a service that creates a secure connection between a device and a remote server.

VPN technology is commonly used in the research industry and by many leading research organizations. This is because VPN metering is able to capture the level of data needed to generate key insights into user's mobile preferences and behaviors.
